Homestay FAQs

A homestay is a type of accommodation where students live with a host family in a residential setting. This arrangement provides an opportunity for cultural immersion, allowing students to experience daily life with local families while improving their language skills and building lasting connections.

PLUS’ host families have been welcoming students for many years. They are made up of friendly, caring, and kind individuals who understand the apprehensions you may have when coming to a new home. They will try their best to make you feel like a member of the family.

Families are chosen either directly by PLUS or, in some cases, through a reputable British Council-accredited agency in the UK.

A family stay is primarily advisable for students who are more independent and have at least an intermediate level of English.

Homestays are available for students aged 12 and above, but we typically recommend them for students aged 14 and older.

Typically, host families accommodate 2 or 3 students, with a maximum of 4. During summer and spring camps, no more than 2 students of the same nationality are placed in a single host family.

Group Leaders may be accommodated in host families, residential accommodation, or hotel depending on availability.

Accommodation is usually in standard single rooms, with twin rooms sometimes available for students of the same gender.

Students receive three meals daily: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast and dinner are taken with the family, who will also provide students with a packed lunch.

Host families are located within a maximum 40-minute journey on public transport from the campus.

For summer and spring camps, Travelcards will be arranged by PLUS as needed. For Integration and Mini Stay programmes, however, Travelcards will not be arranged by PLUS unless requested as an add-on service and purchased in advance.
